Congratulations to Dr. Caitlin Bruce and her colleagues at the Hemispheric Conversations Urban Arts Project (HCUAP) for receiving two years of funding from The Andy Warhol Foundation for Visual Arts to be used towards their research on public art and graffiti in Pittsburgh!
Started in 2016, HCUAP works with resident artists to create spaces for conversations and education about muralism, graffiti, street art, and other productions of art in urban spaces; creative fields that often carry stigma in the public eye. Through their programs, HCUAP aims to provide street artists with a space to display their work to the public without having to hide or detach their identities from their work, and educate the public on the many benefits of these forms of urban street art. The Andy Warhol Foundation for Visual Arts is committed to continuing and preserving Warhol’s legacy through the advancement of visual arts. The foundation provides cash grants to arts organizations across the world with the goal of aiding them in their mission of promoting, protecting, and advancing the arts. Through the grant provided by the Andy Warhol Foundation, HCUAP will be able to continue to expand their educational programs by providing supplies and support for team members, as well as compensate their 2025 resident artists. Dr. Bruce, along with her colleagues, Shane Pilster, Max Gonzales, and Emma Riva are thrilled to have their work supported by the Andy Warhol Foundation and excited to continue to make Pittsburgh a city in which artists are able to thrive.
