Graduate Student, Amina Akbar, Receives 2025 Egolf Award

Amina Akbar, a graduate student in the Communication Department, is the recipient of the 2025 Donald B. Egolf Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching.

The Egolf Award was founded in 2017 in honor of long-time faculty member, Donald Egolf, and is awarded each year to a graduate student who demonstrates passion and commitment towards undergraduate teaching. The award celebrates winners for their excellence and includes a $400 prize.

This year, the committee members were impressed with Akbar’s “strong commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in teaching and learning.” Additionally, they praised Akbar’s “ability to interact with her students in a natural, engaging way during course discussion.” Her interactive approach to teaching stood out amongst applicants because she “provided space for students to bring their own experiences into creative dialogue with both the readings and assignments she crafted.”
