Emily Crosby is a Visiting Instructor for the Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies Program, and a Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of Communication. Emily teaches Introduction to Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies, Sex, Race, and Popular Culture, and is developing a special topics course: Gender and the Digital. Her academic concentrations include rhetorical criticism, feminist and critical theory, and visual rhetoric. Emily’s dissertation research explores the rhetorical strategies employed by female country music stars during the “second wave” of feminism, as means to temper radical sentiment and construct palatable personae amidst conservative gatekeepers. She taught many courses for the Department of Communication before joining the GSWS faculty in 2015.
